Oh the poo that ensued

I think I might have had an out of body experience last night, or at least I want to believe that I had.

As I have mentioned in previous posts I do not do good with booger or yucky poo situations.

What happened last night is a perfect example of how I handle such situations.

After dinner last night I informed the 3 older girls that it was time for them to clean up the last few toys and then head on upstairs to get ready for bed. I told them I was going to be giving Kady a bath and then put her down for the night and that after I was done I would be starting story time.

They somewhat acknowledged me. In my heart of hearts I had a feeling that they were going to continue the trend of ignoring me for that day.

I went about and did what I had told them I was going to be doing, still hoping that they would choose to get their responsibilities done so we could have an enjoyable time reading and cuddling before going to bed.

Unfortunately they chose to be downstairs and play instead of cleaning up and getting ready for bed. So after getting Kady down I went to the heater vent in the girls bedroom, which is directly above where they were playing, and informed them that I was done putting Kady down and that I was going to be starting to read stories in a few minute. But they seemed to be too preoccupied in what they were playing.

I went into our little reading area and tidied up the books feeling sad that I was not going to be able to read to them tonight because of the choices they had made. I realized at this point that the baby was starting to kick my bladder informing me that it had reached full capacity and was intruding on her personal space.

At the same time Sera started shouting from the bottom of the stairs that she needed to go to the bathroom and she could not get the gate unlocked. Apparently Emma had locked both gates for the stairs(one at the bottom and one at the top).

I assured her that she could open the gate, not realizing the urgency of the matter. Sera then struggled but successfully opened the bottom gate, only to find that the top gate was locked as well. At this point she is shouting for Emma to help in a tone I have never heard her use before, with Emma initially saying no, even though she was the one who had locked the gates. But I guess between Sera's pleadings and telling her she was starting to poo her pants and then actually seeing the poo Emma realized that Sera indeed needed her help.

Once Emma got the gate open Sera then asked Emma to help her by taking one of the hands full of poo that she somehow managed to catch in her hand. Emma was not so compliant and said "I can't Sera I am gagging!"

This all happened in the 1 minute I was on the toilet myself.

Poor Sera had this terrifying tone in her cry and voice. I felt so bad for her. I quickly finished and got Sera on the toilet. Unfortunately, for my children I lost it.

All the feelings of frustration that I had been holding in from little people ignoring me all day burst ed out of me. It took 20 nasty minutes to clean up everything. I made sure they knew undeniably that I was not happy at all this whole situation was happening. These are the times where I want to run away and never return.

I disinfected sprayed and wiped down any area that was or could have been exposed to the poopy mess.

Once they realized that they had not chosen to follow directions, they got ready for bed in record time. And they did not complain at all that story time had been canceled due to the choices they had made. We spent a good 10 minutes once they got into bed talking about how the situation could have been avoided, and the importance of following directions. I showed an increase of love despite my irritated feelings inside. Does that count?

It took me a good couple of hours after the ordeal to not feel so worked up about it. Once Jared was able to get home from church, I was able to tell him what had happened.

Through my tears and frustration he was able to make me laugh about the situation, because he couldn't help but laugh at the story himself. He reminded me of Elder Wirthlins talk from 2 conferences ago about finding humor in difficult situations.

So we laughed together trying to figure out how Sera caught the poo in her hands. Was she squatting and catching it from behind or underneath? It is a mystery. Sorry that was probably to descriptive, but it is what made me find humor in this disgusting situation.

It sounds close to a story of you and Wendy way back "when". It was, for many years the worst day of my mothering days. I can't remember when I started to see the humor but all four of you were just trying my patience like no other. You two had diarrhea, and did not like your diapers changed. Steph and Beth wanted it to snow. So I had poo and laundry soap everywhere...FUN FUN FUN

Well, my husband needs to take a lesson from yours. When I have days like that (which is pretty often) I seem to hear something during prayers that my husband prays that talks about please helping me to have the Spirit. I ask you, who would be happy with a 5 year old holding poo in their hands? I'm impressed you got through it and even showed some love before the night ended.

Oh crap! That reminds me of the time my toddlers painted their bedroom in poo while I took a nap. I cried for days!

Ewww. At least she was old enough to keep it in her hands as opposed to wiping it on the carpet. Or the walls. Or her clothes. . . right?

Oh...you are so funny. What a good mom you are for keeping your cool. Plus, what a great story to tell to Sera & Emma's fiances.

So, I don't know if I told you this, but Cara Rigby is my cousin. I just saw that she commented, WEIRD AND SMALL WORLD!!!

Plus, I love a poop story, since I've got several of those up my sleeve myself. Those stories are always so much better the next week or two and they get better with age :)

Here is one of my favorites:

Oh, that is a funny story. You have your hands full for sure --or was that Sera that had her hands full -ha ha ha. thank goodnes we can laugh about those things later - it will be a story you share with them as they get older and you'll love it. HEY - you use the same intercom device I do when my kids were being raised --the heat vent!!!! loved it

Hang in there Pam. Kids always seem to make life exciting but unfortunately it does sometimes involve bodily fluids, which no mom enjoys.
